Protecting Your Driving Privileges After a DUI
If you were arrested for drunk driving, you are probably wondering what you can do to get your life back on track. People who are arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) generally know they made a mistake. They are not interested in going to trial to fight the charges; they want to know what they can do to get their life back to where it was before the arrest. They are embarrassed about the pending case and are worried about how long they will be unable to drive.
At Sullivan & VonBokel, P.C., we defend clients in Madison County, St. Clair County, and the St. Louis metro area of Illinois, who were arrested for drunk driving. Whether you are a first time offender or repeat offender, we can help protect your driving privileges.
Am I Eligible to Receive a BAIID?
The Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) is a machine that is installed in vehicles that requires a breath test before the engine will start. If the machine detects alcohol on your breath, the engine will not start.
Because people who are arrested and charged with their first DUIs will have their licenses suspended, the BAIID is one option to get them back on the road. Not everyone is eligible to receive a BAIID, and there are restrictions. If you appear eligible, our attorneys can help you complete and file the necessary paperwork to obtain the BAIID. Under certain circumstances, it is possible to get your license back without the BAIID.
Protection for Repeat DUI Offenders
In Illinois, people who are convicted of more than one DUI risk losing their driving privileges. If your license is revoked, you might get back your right to apply for your license, but that does not automatically mean you will get your license back.
In some situations, repeat offenders do not get their license back. When clients contact our firm, we give them an honest assessment of their chances of driving again. Although no one wants to know they cannot get their license back, learning this early allows clients to make arrangements in moving forward with their lives.
Our experienced DUI defense lawyers fight to protect the driving privileges of our clients, but we always provide an honest assessment of your case. To schedule a free initial consultation, contact our firm online or call 618-207-4473.
